An excellent old-school backstreet pub with a nice glazed exterior. Still basically two rooms, both carpetted but one side is clearly the public bar with a dartboard, while cushions can be found in the lounge side. Original features abound with a lot of nice woodwork, earning a CAMRA National Inventory listing. The only jarring note was a bit of a dominance by TVs, with several (on loud) in the pub and even one in the outdoor section. A little disappointingly just Doom Bar on pump, with London Pride and Youngs Original having run out the previous night. It feels like a proper pub and would rate much higher if it lost a TV or two and found an interesting beer.

L shaped locals boozer with original brown tile frontage. Quite traditionally decorated over the two rooms within - worn carpet, curtains, beams, tongue ‘n groove wood panelling, a ceiling painted cream and burgundy. All quite homely and busy. Is listed in the CAMRA inventory but I have to admit I didn't really see much on my visit to make me realise until after the event. FA Cup being shown on the TV and a selection of papers available. Apparently a pool table but I didn’t spot it. Four pumps with two on, a dull choice in Doom Bar and Youngs Bitter. Tried a half of the latter which had a metallic edge and I didn’t finish it. I liked it enough as a pub - better ale choice and quality would have scored this place much higher.

A very pleasant local in side street off the main road. Effectively a single space but it feels like two areas, either side of what is an island bar. Carpeted throughout and with traditional seating plus bar stools. The three entrance doors give an idea of the original multi room layout, one still marked "Saloon Bar". Some green stained glass remains to the doors, possibly ex-Charringtons? Beamed ceiling and the lower half of the walls wainscotted, beams and panelling are painted a darkish red colour which together with the roaring fire today, adds a warm feeling. On entering from Field Lane, to the right is what I'd still say is the Saloon Bar, with many people eating good looking Sunday lunches, whereas to the left, there is a pool table, dartboard and TVs showing football on Sky Sports.
Decor involves pub/brewery mirrors, old London Transport ads for Rugby at Twickenham, a painting of the pub etc.
Four handpumps in the best side, three clipped with Pride, Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Youngs Bitter. The unclipped one was also seemingly serving Youngs (I asked after seeing a pint pulled from here). A further two pumps around the corner were unclipped too, and I didn't see them used during my stay.
Outdoor seating under cover to the rear, plus a few of the usual benches to the frontage.
A nice pub all in all, I'd drop by again, especially if they put something more interesting on that fourth pump.
