Who would have thought you could walk for 15 miles in London and pass only three pubs. One of those was a Harvester, so lets say 2 pubs.

A relief to find this after about 10 miles. An original pub knocked into the (two?) adjoining cottages. As usual, finding access is not walker friendly from the road. The assumption is you have a car.

Inside, its all very low beams and supporting columns - making moving through the pub an experience. I found a nice Chesterfield Sofa in front of an unlit fire. The TT Landlord was the only cask on and in fine condition.

A pleasant hour. On with the walk. No more pubs today.

The original pub on the corner has clearly been extended into the two adjoining cottages, and the barman told me that it had also been extended to the rear, where the nain bar counter is currently located. Some parts of the pub are said to be over 300 years old, although much of the old beams in the erstwhile cottages are reclaimed later additions. It must have been a small and insignificant pub back in the day. There’s a notice in the garden at the back giving some background to the pub, which also contains some guff about Dick Turpin which I guess must be expected in any country pub to the north of London. But for all that it’s a decent enough place.

Other points worth mentioning are the table football game, the room in the end cottage being for adults only, plus the inevitable coffee machine occupying an alcove in the main bar, and obviously a large screen TV. Where we sat in the adults only section (although on Friday afternoon there were no kids in) there was what looked like an illuminated sign for something called Desperado – but thankfully not illuminated during the day. It looked out of place in here.

Unfortunately the ale choice wasn’t particularly inspiring, with just GK Abbot and London Pride (£3.65 a pint) on. This place didn’t seem particularly food centric, with some fairly standard stuff on the menu. I noted the burger & chips at £10.95, and the steak & ale pie at £12.95.

This is a perfectly decent pub even though the ale choice is fairly bogstandard. The big downside is that it’s really isolated and difficult to reach without a car.

Nice country style pub in semi-rural setting, ideal if you've just had a stroll through Whitewebbs Park. Friendly staff and well kept beers. Above average.
