Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The John Wallis
Quite an interesting old building (at least externally) in a small area of historic narrow lanes in the middle of Ashford's otherwise rather uninspired pedestrian High Street area. This Stonegate pub (formerly the Man of Kent) is much larger inside than it looks as you approach, having been opened out around the bar with additional seating areas located down a few steps at the far end. Functional furniture and nondescript decor (albeit spooked up for Halloween on this visit). Small pavement patio by the front door. Three of four handpumps in operation, with the local Wantsum single-hop Wakatu (£3.25) supplemented by the seasonal Cottage Scrum Up and Merry Monkey scrumpy (with Hobgoblin coming next by the look of things).

Strongers . left this review about The John Wallis
Compared to the other pubs in the area with bouncers on the door the John Wallis was fairly quiet. This is a large pub with a wooden floored front seating area that leads to the bar and a carpeted rear seating area. Plasma screens are found throughout and I imagine that Sky Sports is shown, but I didn’t note any advertisements. Dance music was playing to the few student aged patrons, but it wasn’t that loud.
Standard draught is available from the bar and the four hand pumps were drawing Greene King IPA, Fuller’s London Pride, Shepherd Neame’s Spitfire and Copper Dragon’s Silver Myst. Cheap food is available and signs inform readers that children eat free.
There is some seating on the path outside the front of the pub.
This is a place that I might pop into if I was VERY thirsty when I walked by.
