Still a really good local pub and actually better than I remember it from years ago. The ale selection doesn’t seem to change much as I remembered Postlethwaites and Gunpowder Mild from last time. Popular restaurant in the back room but the bar is very much for the local drinkers, perhaps an older clientele than the others in Rainford. Well worth a visit.

A pleasant pub and arguably the best selection of real ale of Rainfords pubs. There is a restaurant-like area to the rear and the bar is in the front room. A fairly traditional interior and comfortable. There are 7 handpumps on the bar and a good variety of styles were on. Its slightly out of Rainfords village centre.

The Star is a quite large pub situated a few miles from St Helens that is clean and tidy with friendly local and bar staff. On entry the bar is to your left and beyond this and further left is an adequate opened up room, with to the right of the bar is an seated area made up of dark wooded chairs and tables.
The pub had 7 hand pumps in service on my recent visit and sampled a pint of Postlethwaite's from the coach house brewery which was recommended by one of the locals at the bar and must say the beer was in excellent condition.Out of the 7 casks on show i think 3 are of a more permanent feature while the other 4 rotate on a regular basis.
Worth a visit if ever in the area.
