A back street pub, opposite the Oxfam shop on the corner of Bold Street. It's been done out with lots of old fashioned chairs, tables and shelf units, with curiosities including a very old wall-mounted telephone and a framed charter of Liverpool signed by King John in 1207. Obviously these must be all replicas, but it helps create an atmosphere, which the background music does its best to destroy. There are three beers on the four hand pumps at the end of the bar, two of them from a brewery I've never heard of, Brothers of Liverpool. (The other is Purity UBU.) One is called Old Rope Walks, and the other Bold Street Time Slip. I went for the first one - it's a sweetish beer and my advice would be to add some hops, guys. It's in good condition (NBSS 3.5, £4.80/pint) but not one I would like to drink again. I like my bitters to be, what's the word, oh yes, bitter.

I started a pub crawl here yesterday but remember very little about it, except the three real ales on the bar. it's not very good really, a very bland modern room. better than some options nearby but not particularly worth a visit.

Only two UBU ales on today. The pale ale was OK but I think more could be done with this place.
