A beautiful landmark pub and it still feels quite pubby inside for a Wetherspoons, with a bustling community feel on a Monday evening. Very busy and popular. Sadly most of the ale wasn’t available and the appalling new app decided not to work at all. Friendly and helpful staff though.

As noted, this is now a Wetherspoons and has been for a while now. This is my first visit since it became a Wethers and I must admit that it is a good one. The large mainly open plan interior is basically U-shaped, as is the bar. 12 handpulls in three banks of 4 but sadly not the best beers on offer, though the Titanic Avalon was nice. I wouldn't have any problem returning here.

This is an original pub and hotel set on a major road junction in the Liverpool suburbs. It is not currently one of the chain of JDW Hotels. What Pub informs us that it was originally a Higson's pub. It's a typical suburban 20th Century pub that according to the JDW website opened in the mid 1950s.
Inside it's an open plan long room with the bar area in the middle and smaller areas either side of it. Although it's quite a large pub it's not that big for a JDW.
There are three sets of four hand pumps but one set was out of use. Beers available were the JDW Trio Of Doom, the recently watered down Robinson's Trooper, Weetwood Eastgate & Southern Cross, Hydes Old Indie and Ringwood Old Thumper. I went for the Eastgate (£2.05) which was in good nick.
This is quite cosy for a Spoons especially compared to their old shop conversions and barns. It's a shame the beer choice was rather on the dull side. It's GBG 2018 listed.
