Corner pub near the university which has a kind of alternative atmosphere. There often appears to be a few characters in here. Our Monday night visit was no exception, with a number of very strange characters eating Haribo sweets at the bar with their beers and another guy practically falling asleep in his beer whilst attempting to do a crossword in the corner.

The interior is fairly simple, with garish wallpaper. A corridor with dog wallpaper leads off to the toilets. Live music makes a regular appearance.

On the ale front, there is now only a single real ale. This was from the local Carnival Brewery and was titled A Lovely Pint of Best Beside The Fire. Rosie's Triple D cider is also on handpull.

I've awarded this pub 7/10 on previous reviews on other sites, but it has slipped slightly in my estimations with the reduction in real ale. This is also likely to be the reason it has not made an appearance in the Good Beer Guide since 2018.

A small friendly pub on the corner of Caledonia Street and Catharine Street (yes it is spelt like that). A band has just finished playing and were packing up on our Sunday, early evening visit. 4 beers available from the handpumps, two of which were from Stamps, along with a real cider It has a well used feel to it and there were loads of regulars in plus a couple of dogs. My pint of Stamps First Class was in good nick and we ended up spending a pleasant half hour here. We both liked the vibe of the place and will definitely pop in for one next time we're at this end of town.

Included on a recent Liverpool crawl. Four hand pulls plus I think one for cider. Two of the ales were by Melrose. Quite a small place but quite busy on our Saturday evening visit. We did manage to get a seat though. No mad rush to go back, but another one off the list!
