The Mitre is a Nicholsons’ pub with an L-shaped front bar section with high tables in the front windows and tables up the left to a chimney breast with fireplace. The bar counter to the right supports premium and craft keg as well as four hand pumps that were drawing Dark Star’s Hophead, Wiper & True’s Kaleidoscope and a couple of Westons Old Rosie Ciders. The split bar counter continues up the right-hand wall to serve a rear bar area with seating to the left. Another four hand pumps are found here, Oakham’s Citra, Brew York’s Blonde, Salopian’s Shropshire Gold and Nicholsons’ Pale being available. I went for the Blonde which was well served, but maybe a little sweet for me and £2.80 is at the top end of what you’d pay for a half in these parts. At the rear of the pub is a sunken open plan seating area. During my recent Saturday lunchtime visit there was some background music playing and the televisions in each bar area were both off. The pub was clean and tidy, but I've been in much more interesting Nicholsons’ pubs, and I’ve received much friendlier service. This place is still well worth a look though.

Pretty good Nicholson's pub with six cask beers and a couple of ciders. Having just come from the Maypole, I might well be underplaying this pub's real ale credentials. The bar manager was just pulling through a fresh barrel of London Pride, but I opted for the Pale Brummie, which was in pretty good condition. A Nicholson's pub can be an oasis if it's miles from a decent cask ales pub, but it's easy to walk on by when it's between the Pickerel, Maypole and Champion of the Thames.

A slick Nicholson's pub with lots of polished wood and a fairly upmarket feel. It extends back to a dining area at the rear. Several guest ales are on offer alongside the usual regulars and condition was very good (Cask Marque accredited).
