When I initially walked past and looked in, there were no pump clips on the handpumps. On my way back I passed here again and noticed two pump clips up, so I popped in. I was pleased to see that all the original fixtures and fittings have been retained. The original oak bar really looks fabulous, along with the original off sales screen at the far end of the bar. This had several stained glass panels and a ledge in front of the serving hatch.
There was a small lounge area over on the right as you enter the pub, with more impressive timber work. All the fixed bench seating was finished in a petrol blue button backed leatherette, this colour also matched the walls. Original cornice work and further stained and etched windows really finished the place. Looking at the external brick work, I noticed the pub was originally named The Grapes Inn.
Three handpumps with two beers from Neptune, which were Spring Tide and River Drifter. I went for the Spring Tide, which warranted a second pint. The young barman was friendly and chatty, looking forward to a return visit.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about Cains Brewery
Unfortunately, I am unable to access the forum to correct the name of the pub at this address. However, the pub pictured and at this postcode is still the Brewery Tap. It has been open for many years and survived the closure of the brewery itself. It is now part of the over-commercialised Cains Brewery Village.
Rather confusingly, the new Cains Brewery bar has opened a few yards east along Stanhope Street. I have requested that this be added to the site, but it may get rejected, due to the confusion over the names. The Brewery Tap is recommended for a more traditional pub experience, whereas Cains Brewery and Punch Tarmey's (in between the two) are much bigger barn-like premises catering to the masses. All belong to Cains and sell their beers.

now refurbished quite nicely but serves no real ale at all. For the former Cains Brewery tap with their memorabilia on show, that is pretty poor. The modern dance music was extremely loud for 1pm. A half of Guinness was bloody expensive too. A shame because a proper pub in this increasingly busy area would thrive. File under: missed opportunity
