A couple of minutes from the hell of Manchester Piccadilly BR so ideal for a between-train pint if you want something different from the somewhat transient Tap. It’s a bit of a modern blandised interior but retains a some pubbiness. Lampshades above the bar were an unusual touch. Cricket on the TV. Five pumps with four ales on, beers you've heard of. My Bass was pretty good (NBSS 3.5) so I’d happily pop in here again for convenience. 6.5

Probably 20 years since my last visit to this pub, almost opposite Manchester Piccadilly railway station. It was very lively and noisy, and it seems to be one of those places where people go to behave badly. Or perhaps it was just that time of day (6pm) or week (Friday), or just Manchester. I had a glance at the bar - the barman had obviously been told to push Beavertown Neckoil to anyone who looked at all hesitant, but when I said that it was one of the worst beers I had ever tasted he not only agreed but went so far as to say that the people that make that beer clearly don't like drinkers at all. There were five hand pumps, with Boon Doggle, Landlord, Doom Bar (coming soon!), Trooper and a pretty decent Acorn Kashmir (NBSS 3.5).

The Waldorf has a bar on the rear wall that supports a premium and craft keg range alongside five handpumps. Four of these were drawing mainstream ales and the fifth was badged with Green Duck Brewery’s Hysteria, that was ‘coming soon’. Food is available, the burger is priced under £10.
In the middle of the pub is a supporting column with a beer shelf all around and tables are found throughout the open plan bar. There is a raised seating area to the side of the entrance and televisions are found throughout for watching live sport. Everyone was watching the match in progress during my recent midweek evening visit, but the sound was muted in favour of some background music. I found the service to be polite and I thought that this was one of the better pubs in the area.
