The Grove Inn has a central bar that serves the lounge bar to the right and vault bar to the left. My visit was on a recent Saturday afternoon not long after the FA Cup final had finished, so I was surprised to find the pub so quiet. There was nobody in the carpeted lounge bar where banquettes run along the front and right walls. On the rear wall is a dartboard and the television was switched off. There were a handful of locals in the vault where the L-shaped bar counter faces banquettes across the front windows and up the left. At the rear is a pool table with seating around and the television was airing post-match commentary via BBC. Sky Sports and BT Sport are both advertised. This is a Holts pub so their usual keg was available and the five hand pumps across the two bars were either unused or drawing their Bitter. The service was polite, but the out of town location means that I’ll not be visiting again any time soon.

This is a typical Holts roadhouse, but smaller than many. There's a small lounge to the right and a much bigger taproom to the left. The taproom was very busy at 15:30 on a Friday afternoon. There are several TV screens, all showing racing and a pool table and a dartboard. The friendly landlady served me my pint of Holts Bitter which was only £2.71. It's a pleasant enough place, another workingman's local.

My main lunchtime watering hole for nearly 40 years. In the old days I would go alone because no one would drink Holts ales (too much taste!). Over the years I gradually educated everyone (at work) and it became the place for all the leaving "do's" when the factory closed down.
A memory of the old landlady Madge. Two young lads came in and ordered lager. One of them took it back saying it tasted funny. Madge glared at him and said "Of course it tastes funny - its lager!"
