A single long roomed shop conversion with some twenty keg taps along the bar, there was also a couple of handpumps but these were not in use.Mostly normal seating along with some red leather sofas and wooden high backed pews. There was a random upright piano against the wall with a self portrait print of Frida Karlo perched on top, any significance of this is unclear. I stopped for a couple of Hammerton beers, Panama Creature and an excellent Van Food. Not a bad place but I actually much prefer their tap room at the nearby brewery just under a mile away.

This was previously the Wig & Gown, a shop conversion by at least 2003, this arriving in 2017, the tap for the long dormant Hammerton’s brewery situated just up the road off Roman Way.
The interior can be seen in my photo and scrutinised on the bar’s website, where typical customers are also displayed. Having recently had Hammerton’s excellent Penton oatmeal stout at the nearby Lady Mildmay, I was eager to get a draught pint of the stuff here, only to find to my great dismay that this is a keg only establishment. The difference between keg and draught versions of this beer are stark, the former tasting of not much, like a castrated version of the latter, along with being cold and a bit fizzy, the head somewhat lively. To add insult to injury, my pint set me back £5.40, whereas the Lady Mildmay charged me £4.90.
‘Less is more’ is often an appropriate phrase, but not in this instance where more rewards with less, so I’ll not be back.

Well described in previous review, except there are now 4 handpumps which offer the odd real ale and cider, and the row of keg fonts seems to have expanded somewhat. I thought the restricted lighting gave something of a bistro effect to the place, rather than an alehouse, but it was pleasant enough.
