Interesting pub this. Very much more a music venue than a standard pub and the list of London artists who have played here ( and have their black and white photos plastered on the walls) is quite impressive.
A standard drinks section including one ale, which for our visit was fortunately a decent Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, but that’s not the main draw here. Better to visit when there is a live act on and apparently the weekly Sunday Gospel brunch is quite a thing.
It’s one of those places where you spend most time on a first visit studying the various photos and posters on the walls, but it is a decent interior space that you do warm to and there is a pleasant enclosed courtyard garden area out back.

Visited 22/12/25. Visited previously 18/12/22.

Two handpumps, one dispensing TT LL, the other unclipped. The keg offering was Blue Moon, Amstel, Moretti, Asahi, Tiny Rebel Easy Livin, BT Neck Oil and Gamma Ray, Aspall, Camden Hells, Cruz and Guinness.

Last here in the evening of the France v Argentina WC Final. Essentially venue a rectangle off the v busy main road outside, with the bar counter in the rear right-hand corner, up a couple of steps in this bare boarded venue. The bar counter has a bit of a tiled cottage look about it! Mish mash of seating options including a couple of leather sofas and a couple of church pews along the perimeter. Quite eclectic in terms of decor, more so by the Xmas decs. Can order in pizza and late closing with live music later in week.

I've passed this place many a time but never went in, put off by the aggressive orange colour scheme and blacked out windows. Now that the owners have had the good sense to un-black the windows and give the pub a tasteful and muted lick of 'gastropub' grey/green, I thought that perhaps we'd venture in, especially given that it was late afternoon. Originally The Birkbeck Tavern, this was renamed The Shepherd's Inn around 1981 and then The Boogaloo I don't know when. The whole pub has just had a makeover and has a rather stark interior - you can tell it's a music pub - with memorabilia on the walls and a striking Wurlitzer-style jukebox. There's a fairly small L-shaped bar to the rear right and there are also some central support columns. There's also a fairly large courtyard to the side.

Only two ales on and neither sampled because we ordered two pints of something crafty, cold and expensive before spotting the pumps: Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Adnam's Broadside.

This place isn't bad, in fact maybe it's very good at what it does, but I've never liked loud/live music venues so won't be coming here again.
