Nothing really changed since Tris's visit of pushing 4 years ago. It is quite a gloomy pub not helped by being here on a rather gloomy evening. In fact, the gloom is barely punctured by the neon signs at the back of the pub announcing live music, main stage (as far as I can tell the only stage) and the toilets (in case anyone can't discern the key purpose of the illuminated figurative depiction of M/F conveniences). The patio out the front, still patrolled by a bouncer detail, was choc-a-block and so I had the large bare boarded interior space to myself (apart from the bar staff and workers in the small pizza kitchen to the right of the bar). Warm glow fairy lights surround each of the large windows at the front presumably to improve the visibility inside as the awnings and trees block out most of the natural light.

There was a single hand pump offering a decent pint of Bath Ales GEM. A single tap on the far corner of the bar strategically placed near the entrance of the Main Stage to offer immediate thirst relief to the gig goers offers their house lager, called the Finsbury lager. Takes naming of house been to new levels of inventiveness. Keg choices were otherwise Guinness, Moretti, inch's, Blue Moon, Tiny Rebel's Clwb Tropica, Gamma Ray, Neck Oil, Heineken, the grapefruit and peach versions of Jubel lager, Brixton Reliance Pale Ale, Coldharbour lager, Cruz and Amstel.

From the number of people out front this is either deemed to be a v cool Finsbury Park hang out amongst the younger generations or there is a gig later this evening and the crowds are here for that. I thought it was a decent venue on the way to more interesting venues. Like Tris 4 years ago, I am in the area to visit the Salisbury!

A first in here for anyone it would seem, this was originally an Ind Coope house called the Finsbury Park Hotel, dating from 1871.
There's a fairly large beer patio out front with a central entrance leading you into a largish room with bar at centre. You certainly notice the gloom but it's not dark enough to hide the fact that every wall surface is bare brick with a rough bare boarded floor and eclectic mismatched furniture; lighting is rather industrial - I couldn't discern any original pub fabric.
Next up is a large central room with black walls, stage lighting and a raised performance area with a drum kit and the like; this is obviously a live music venue and aside from the black walls, matches the front room in terms of flooring and furniture. It also featured some sort of large monochromatic mural of a woman with three eyes, possibly a depiction of Lady Shiva? I didn't venture into the rear room as I suspected it could only get worse, though not in terms of behaviour as the young crowd were well behaved and in any event, a bouncer was patrolling the floor which is always a negative point in my book.
Staff were friendly but a little confused and surprisingly there was real ale in the form of Gloom and GK IPA, so obviously I plumped for a pint of Neck Oil at an obscene £5.95 a pint.
This place isn't a complete disaster but I really can't see myself coming here again. I only really popped in as it's en route to the majestic Salisbury...
