The Pigeons dates back in some form to at least the early 19th century but was rebuilt in the late Victorian/early Edwardian style for Charrington's. I visited once in the early 2000s for an evening of pub bingo. This had a very large interior and was quite dark. The customer base seemed to comprise mainly students from the University of East London's Stratford campus on the other side of the road.
It wasn't a bad pub for the type but nearly 20 years on, I doubt I'd feel any desire to return. Still, better that than yet another Tesco.
