Visited 28/01/26. Visited previously on 27/11/23.
Mini-beer festival so in addition to the staples of Ruddles Best, Abbot and Doom Bar there was Oakham JHB, Backstage IPA from Signature Brew, Wit's End Belgian Wit bier from Sambrook's, Starry Night bitter from Twickenham and the Storm London dry stout from Windsor & Eton. Keg offering of original & dark fruits SB, Carlsberg, Stella, Angelo Poretti, Budweiser, Leffe Blonde, Worthington CF, Corona, Guinness, Carling, Bud Light, Stowford Press cider, Coors, K1664, the Sumo APA from Mad Squirrel, Punk IPA and Shipyard Pale Ale.
Would put this in the old school camp of JDW venues. It is a long rectangle from the frontage, with the bar counter on the right-hand wall in the front of the venue with service on a shorter front facing side and a longer counter down the front to mid length of the venue. Seating to the right of the entrance and down the middle opposite the bar counter is via regular and tall tables. Over towards the left-hand side of the venue are regular tables and then some booth tables along the rear left-hand wall. The venue is carpeted apart from a wooden skirt around the bar counter. Low ceiling, minimal screens, no background music and a packed attendance mid evening. I paid £1.89 for my superbly kept pint of JHB, what's not to like / love.

A mid-sized spoons with the usual service issues despite there being five staff behind the jump, all totally unaware of who's next, the usual uncleared tables were numerous. I only spotted five handpumps with just three on, Old Speckled Hen, Wainwright and Oakham JHB which I went for and which they had great trouble pouring, juggling beer between a couple of glasses to get a a full one, finally after a four or five minute wait the resultant beer was not great, NBSS 2 was rather generous on my part. I ended up leaving half and moving swiftly on.

Another Timbo Victoriana-era outlet (1993) though this has had a bit of an upgrade, presumably for the 2012 Olympics. As noted elsewhere it’s a fairly small interior with some booths round the back though there is a sizeable garden. A pointless huge snaking queue that I destroyed (at the behest of a beleaguered barmaid) by just going to the bar and standing in the empty space. Two Portobello as guest beers and my Carnival was, as I suspected on pouring, a watery characterless mess (NBSS 2). Happy to get gone, this is a Spoons for the transients.
