Four hand pumps dispensing Seacider, Adnams Broadside and two from Hobsons, the Newhouse Harvest pale and the Champion dark mild. Keg offering was a series of beers from Walthamstow brewery Exale, Skoosh a session IPA, T Shirt Tan a farmhouse pale, Gateau Blaster a fruited sour, Oona a NEIPA, Path of the Wind a pale ale, WTF Lager, WTF pale ale, Pier Pressure a NEIPA and Pils Pils Pils an English pilsner. Other keg beers were Guinness, Wild Wave a cider from Adnams, the raspberry sour from Vault City, Fosters.

This is a cracking old school pub, bare boarded with the bar counter on the right-hand wall with banquette and regular seating around regular tables and some tall stool seating around tables around floor to ceiling columns. Crimson anaglypta ceiling covering with slowly rotating fans. Interesting, framed art on the walls. Low level lighting creating a nice ambience in the front bar on my 8.30pm visit. There is a rear seating area near a pizza outlet and beyond that an outside seating area that I didn't get to investigate. The inside rear seating area was showing the evening footie, and I spotted a darting area in the rear right-hand corner. This is a quirky and interesting venue with a decent beer offering. One I shall return to.

This is a late 19th century pub, where one of the first things you notice is the Ind Coope/Allied Allsopp’s ‘hand’ device above an empty sign frame.
The interior is very commanding, to the designs of W. G. Shoebridge & Lewis of 1896 and until recently, this was the Brodie’s tap, though sadly their lovely brews are now created at the Rhymney Brewery. In South Wales. Otherwise, the floor is bare boarded, the intricate bar array original, a pretty fireplace with polychromatic tiled surround, walls with burgundy Anaglypta then white to an ochre ceiling with descending mashrabiya-style fretwork, probably indicating where divisions were once sited. Along with some residual etched glass, there were two Ind Coope mirrors with the pub’s name; to the rear is a dining room. Otherwise, furniture is traditional with some oxblood studded peripheral banquettes; less appealing was the pool table, games machine and all-dominating TV sport, though at least the few male locals were watching it.
Sadly, there’s no longer any Brodie’s, just two unused pumps, so it was a half of Five Points JUPA, £3.35, served by a smiley barmaid.
This pub is rather impressive, hence the score; if only the ambience and ale selection could match, this could be a real winner, but I agree with Aqualung that the devotion to televised sport and all-dominating pool table up front don’t add to the place.

After the sale of it last Winter by Brodie's to Rose Pubs (according to What Pub) I was interested to see what had been done. The carpets have gone and there are bare floorboards in the front and a parquet floor at the rear. The benches around the walls have been completely refurbished and new furniture replaces the old. The bar counter in the back room now houses an open kitchen. The front bar counter looked much the same but with less hand pumps. All the bric-a-brac has gone including the best mirrors. For some reason they thought it was a good idea to install a prominent pool table in the front room but no dart board. One of the reasons I stopped coming here was because of the incessant TV sport. They now have two huge screens in the front bar and one in the back. Given that they are now advertising Sunday roasts I wonder how they will reconcile that with Sunday Premier League games. A second reason I stopped coming here was because of din of loud music on Saturday nights. They have promised DJs for Saturday night and on my opening evening visit they had a loud soundtrack blasting out.
Although the bar retains around a dozen hand pumps only four were in operation with ELB Foundation Bitter, Howling Hops Ruby Red & Pale and Crate Session IPA.
I noticed both the Howling Hops beers were coming up very lively which left me wondering if they had sorted out the cellar temperature problems. The Ruby Red (£4.20) wasn't entirely clear but was reasonably OK. Compared to the majority of Brodie's beers it was very pedestrian and of course, expensive.
Overall I was disappointed with this new incarnation and doubt that I will return. It should be noted that it doesn't open until 16:00 weekdays and 12:00 weekends.
