Love the last review.... Nice bit of local colour.
Right on the Ridgeway Path - so plenty of walkers making use of the outdoor facilities.
Lovely pint of Hook Norton, Old Hooky.
Did seem to have a slightly shambolic air of hospitality about it. Landlord giving the teenage staff a "pep-talk" in front of the customers.
I observed a group of ramblers who claimed to have pre-booked be told they hadn't. The lady may have misheard but she told the rest of the group that "as they hadn't pre-ordered, they would have to go without food". Off they went. This seemed unlikely, as they weren't that busy.
I ordered a simple sausage sarnie - which after 10 mins, I was told was off the menu. A 45 minute wait for the chicken sandwich alternative seemed a bit overlong.

With the demise of The Bernard Arms in Great Kimble, this country pub has become the de facto 'local' for incumbent PMs to take visiting dignitaries to whilst staying at nearby Chequers - yes, this is the pub David and Samantha Cameron accidentally left their daughter at, as well as the same one that Chinese PM Xi Jinping enjoyed a pint of GK IPA at so much that a Chinese firm were said to have made an offer on (and sales of said beer to go through the roof in China). Popular with walkers and dog-owners primarily, it's semi-gastro, yet offers a pub grub menu and still has a functioning bar where solo drinkers are welcome (GK IPA - of course - and Rebellion Afterburner available on this visit, the latter a little iffy). The bar faces the entrance door, with a nookish area to the right and a main dining area in what appears to be an extension to the original building to the left. One of a number of pubs which nestle at the foot of the Chilterns where you can enjoy a pint after a decent ramble, this is no world-beater, but at least ticks a couple of basic boxes.

Heavily gastroised pub with rooms on the Ridgeway. When we called at about 3pm we were refused service despite people already there with full pints, so couldn't sample the mainly Greene King related beers.
Would hate to turn up tired and bedraggled on a wet afternoon having walked 20 miles to be greeted by that sort of hospitality.
