A prominent street corner pub just outside of Newport Pagnell, it is not currently red despite it’s name, although presumably it was at some point in the past. I believe it may have recently re-opened after a spell of closure and it would seem that it is yet to build up trade as there was only one other punter in there on my visit, although that was early on a mid-week evening.
The pub is divided in to two rooms although they do effectively merge in to one at the end of the bar counter rather than being entirely separate. The front bar has a wood strip floor and deep red walls in a nod to the pub’s name. The dominant feature here was a pool table, as well as a couple of darts boards and a plasma screen. The rear bar is perhaps more of a lounge, although had little in the way of any character. This is carpeted and the paintwork was the usual pub shade of brown with a couple of large black and white arty photos dotted around and a couple of plasma screens showing the news. There seemed to be a lot of empty space with only limited seating, and much of what there was consisted of high level “tables” fixed to pillars. There were a couple of old sofas off to one side but little else of any note. The rear part of the bar may well have been an extension and had exposed brick walls painted yellow as well as large floor to ceiling windows overlooking the garden.
Beers on tap were Hooky and Greene King IPA with Doom Bar apparently having run out. Ciders appeared to be Strongbow and Carling, but on requesting the latter I was told that this was a new pump that was yet to be commissioned. I couldn’t bring myself to have a Strongbow, so opted for a soft drink instead.
