Dating from 1865, the former Metropolitan was named after the adjacent Metropolitan railway (tube); it has undergone a number of name changes and refurbishments in recent years, the current moniker dating from 2025, courtesy of Aldrich Inns.
The first thing you notice is that the lovely burgundy and cherry faience tiling (see photos) has been tragically hacked off; new royal blue tiling to the exterior, fake flame effect Windsor lanterns now adorn the fascia. The interior is thankfully quite conventional and gone is the hideous white painted brick and red plastic inspection lamps hanging from the ceiling, likewise the ghastly yuletide portentous stink of mulled wine detailed below. There’s a bare boarded floor, royal blue paint to the dado then rag washed white or bare brick to a blue Anaglypta ceiling; furniture is conventional and décor comprises mixed framed prints and photos. An annoying TV showed completely unwatched sport in silence to a decent jazzy soundtrack, lapped up by trendy young locals, though painfully few in number for a Thursday evening.
Cask amounted to an unused pump then Hogs Back The Hero, price unknown as I bought a round but it was ok, served by a very friendly barman. Also available was Jeremy Clarkson's Hawkstone Cider, purchased for my friend and declared 'awful'; indeed a sip reminded me of drinking Woodpecker behind the bike sheds in the '80s.
This isn’t a bad place, but it would be improved with a greater and more adventurous cask selection; turning off the TV would also help as would investing some cash in the rundown lavatory cubicle.

Visited 03/12/25. Visited previously as Quiet Night Inn on 22/11/23

Cask was a single hand pump providing Heroes IPA from Hogs Back Brewery plus an unclipped hand pump. Keg offering was the Hawkstone IPA, Session and Cider, Pillars Helles & Pilsner, the Wanna Go To The Sun pale ale and the Keller Pils from Lost & Grounded, Deya Steady Rolling Man, Tennent's and Murphy's stout.

Nice to see this venue right by Westbourne Park station reopened. It certainly is a plush reincarnation. Bare boarded with a near full island bar in the centre of the floor space. Regular tables served by regular chairs and banquettes, some tall tables dotted around the bar counter. There is an area around a tall table to the left of the entrance that provided a slightly more secluded drinking space with a drinking ledge and tall stools looking out through the large plate glass windows. There is some outside space at the side of the venue, with traditional picnic style benches and plenty of lighting on my dark early December evening visit. Inside lighting was also very subdued. The venue was busy and chatty so much so the soundtrack was totally drowned out and there was an incredibly pungent smell of mulled wine pervading the interior.

4th September 2015:

Right next to Westbourne Park tube, this is quite a spacious open pub with some recently uncovered wonderful pink and cherry red faïence tiling.
The loud music that once played seems to have gone, replaced for the better by more muted tunes. Furniture is conventional with stools to the windows' perimeter beneath which there are beer shelves. There are some leatherette banquettes and metal columns.
Service was fine. My pint of Cottage Brewing Co's Thunderbolt was £3.80, which is good value for the area. It was though a little sour.
This isn't a bad pub and is worth popping in if passing, but I wouldn't make a detour to get here.

----------

Closed and boarded up for some months and recently reopened. We popped in the other night and the pub hasn't had much done to it. It wasn't the most opulent of pubs, but it now looks just a little stripped out with some bare brick, white walls, overly bright caged filament bulbs hanging on long flexes, some of which are red plastic. The net result is that they look like inspection lamps and with the bare brick, the interior looks a bit like a building site. There was some sort of open mic thing going on with crooners massacring tunes - it was like Karaoke From Hell and loud too.
A friendly barmaid presided over just the one ale which was the disappointing Sharp's Cornish Coaster which lived down to expectations.
The Metropolitan seems a little lost. There's little else around here aside from the nearby Union, essentially a crèche for drunken teenagers so the Met is a bit of a lost opportunity.
