Now painted dark grey with gold lettering, I stumbled in here when a private party was in progress but was allowed to sit at the back. My first impression of happening into a restaurant was actually confirmed by the price of £4.20 for a half of a fake Latin lager. There is only a selection of UK standard kegs as a beer choice. It’s decorated and furnished like an Indian restaurant so I’m pretty sure it’s not really a pub.

Dating back to the early 19th century, this was originally the Anchor, an anchor motif to the central gable now obscured when this pub had a change of name following a savage refurbishment in 2020, into what is now in effect a cocktail bar with one of the most naff, gaudy interiors I've ever seen. And it was completely empty midweek when all other pubs visited were doing a decent trade; I didn't stay.

Quite an acceptable pub in what looks like an Edwardian building but for some reason painted dark blue. Inside however is smartly modernised, retaining a proper bar and with some refreshingly white ceilings and walls, and only a modicum of dark turquoise woodwork. The room extends off round to the side of the bar, with plenty of tables and comfortable seating. There is a small garden at the rear Draught ales were Doom Bar and Proper Job, the latter in good form. There is also a large selection of craft beers in tin and bottle.
