When I popped my head in here on Wednesday there was clearly a refurbishment underway, and I think it is going to re-open as a bar called Bless. Clearly this was once a real pub, whose original name of the Half-Way House can be seen clearly in John McGraw’s photograph of the gable. I’m pretty sure that it is Victorian in origin, and this view is reinforced by the style of the superb tiling that was visible in the entranceway. I really hope this original tiling doesn’t get damaged in the current refurbishment; perhaps they will cover it with boarding or suchlike, as I suspect that such an original feature might look a little incongruous in a bar called “Bless”.
