This pub supposedly dates back over 300 years, when this was all fields and a fair way outside London; I can’t believe anything of the original structure remains, my guess is that it was rebuilt around the ‘30s when this suburb went up, the pub situated on Hanger Lane, home to the legendary Hanger Lane Gyratory System.
Situated on what is virtually a dual carriageway, this place doubles as a hotel with a massive Crossroads-style accommodation block to the rear behind a huge car park. The only thing of note inside is some pleasant stained glass leaded lights to an entrance vestibule. Thereafter it’s all pale wood, a mushroom soup colour scheme with zoned lounge furniture and large potted palms; a few framed Ealing Comedy film posters are to be found. There’s a banal soundtrack and motor racing on the TVs, with just one customer watching (see photo); a few other drinkers constituted a party, so may have been hotel guests.
The usual Fuller’s suspects are to be found here with only a modicum of interest generated by their new Griffin IPA, which is drinkable at very pricey £2.90 a half here, served by a friendly barmaid.
This place may be useful for the Mondeo-driving classes who live out their lives on the open road or locals who can’t be arsed to take a bus into central Ealing, but otherwise it’s of no interest.

Being a Fuller's pub there's no great surprise on the ale front, with London Pride, Oliver's Island, Wise Men (£4.05 a pint), and Jack Frost (almost) on. The barman pulled about a third of a pint of Jack Frost and then asked a colleague if it was on the till yet - it wasn't so they couldn't sell it. But he gave me the third as a "taster" so I guess I more than broke even. Both the Jack Frost, and the Wise Men, were in great nick. Food's available for lunch and dinner of course with sarnies around £6.50 - £7.50, and main courses around £10.50 - £13.00 or so.

It's quite an interesting pub overall, with a bit of a verandah outside, leading into what I would regard as the main bar area at the front. To the left of the central servery there's a doorway leading back to a large room which was quite busy with a birthday party in full swing. The bar counter has a matchboard panelled front; the bar back is a very simple affair but framed by a quartet of bevilled mirrors. The walls throughout seem to have retained their fielded wood panelling, but with that in the large back room having been painted light grey, but with that in the bar area retaining its dark wood colouring. I spotted three fireplaces - a couple in the bar area with one of them having some attractive tiling, and with the one in the back room having a distinctive wooden surround. The curved bays at the front still have what looks like the original fitted bench seating. The rest of the pub's furnished with normal tables and chairs. Of course the place has that pub scourge the fruit machine (or one-armed bandit in old money), plus large TVs and music playing.

There was something of a holiday atmosphere when I dropped in at Thursday lunchtime. The pub still has a fair amount of the traditional pub feel about it. I could have done without the Christmas themed pop music, but then again I am a bah humbug curmudgeon, and I suppose others were enoying it. Overall I liked this pub.

Substantial Fuller's roadhouse with 73-bed hotel attached. Two fair-sized bars separated by a central servery, with further seating / dining areas and rear beer garden beyond. There are still various original features in dark wood to admire, and the refurbishment with semi-modern furniture and decor has been sensitively done. Pride, ESB and the seasonal Red Fox (£4.05) available from the total of nine handpumps divided between the two counters.
