Not a shop conversion, this dates from the mid-19th century as the Robin Hood & Little John, rebuilt in 1897, the name truncated to the Robin Hood and still visible to the parapet, formerly a branch of Tommy Flynn’s from 2003 prior to someone – I assume called Connolly? – picking up the baton.
The interior is small with a central bar, lots of green paint, games machines, décor and knickknacks comprising plenty of Gaelic guff, much to a high shelf, exhibiting lots of pots and bottles; above the bar were several pool trophies. Customers were 99% male, virtually all glued to the MCI v. RMA match, though I wasn’t sure who they were rooting for.
No real ale of course, the obligatory black stuff costing a very stiff £3.00 a half, served by a friendly barmaid.
This place makes for something different and it’s more welcoming than other identikit venues of this ilk, but the lack of real ale is a disincentive.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Connolly's
It's hard to miss the emerald-green paintwork on the facade on this 'Bar & Diner', but thankfully the Irish-themed interior decor is relatively restrained. Light wood furniture and panelled walls, giving a pleasant feel to the island bar layout with two small raised seating areas at the front. Numerous silent sports TVs with background music at a sensible volume. Pool table to rear. Live music advertised. Small patio seating area at the front. Slightly surprisingly, perhaps, Doom Bar was available from one of the two handpumps (£3.50, and a bit flat). Overall, and despite not getting the most friendly of welcomes from the barmaid, this was a bit better than I was expecting.

This is an Irish ‘shop conversion' pub and I think that it has been done very well. As with all these pubs there is live music and Sky television. I loved the layout inside and the barmaid was very friendly and a pint costs £3.10 which is basically in line with all the other pubs in the area.
I think to enjoy yourself in one of these pubs you have to be in the correct frame of mind, which I normally am!
