This pub has a corporate feel and quite lavish furniture but little in the way of pub atmosphere. There is a seperate hotel entrance to the side, the interior is open plan these days but would have had a seperate front bar, with the rear of the building accessed through a large side doorway.Beyond the bar is a parqet floored conservatory area and access to a walled beer garden, while to the side and front there was a lot of external seating, mainly benches.
A pleasing feature is some inlaid mosaic around the bar while the muzak was as hip as the menu. The ale selection was Fullers London Pride,Dark Star Open Haze (ludicrously expensive at £3 a half,NBSS 3) while St Austell Tribute was "coming soon".
Smart, clean but forgettable,I can see no good reason to return

The history here goes back to the late 18th century, but the current structure is obviously a rebuild and is still a hotel, grade II listed.
The previous four reviews probably still apply: a part white but mainly smoky blue colour scheme, modern herringbone floor with patterned tiled bar apron, traditional but modern furniture with a deep red vinyl application, studded to the banquettes. There’s a dark wood and mirrored bar back, along with some modern dark joinery with glass infill to give the impression of age, mixed gilt framed pictures, the larger ones illuminated with brass picture lamps, overall lighting coming from dangly glass lanterns. Customers were mixed, the pub well attended, including an annoying yapping dog, barely audible music playing over the stereo.
Ale amounted to Doom, By the Horns Pale Ale (‘coming soon’) then Signal’s Absolutely Fuggled at a very pricey £3.10 a half and as dull as the other Signal beers I’ve sampled, served by a clueless barman, wearing a Gipsy Moth corporate shirt, so was probably supply staff on secondment from that neighbouring hostelry.
This is quite a dull pub with a corporate feel, poor and expensive ale choice and annoying dog. I wouldn’t come here again, but it’s better than the Greenwich Tavern.

A quite glorious free-standing building on the main road but the interior has had rather too much of the designer treatment which isn't great, although apparently a big refurb is planned. The main area is nicely high-ceilinged, with a further room and conservatory behind; patio area at the rear. On handpump was just a tired Doom Bar, with Proper Job badged but off, plus a couple of fruit ciders. Sadly the staff seemed more interested in each other than the customers, while the food looked expensive with gastro pretensions. Great potential but not making it at the moment.
