Another one not reviewed for a while but which remains materially unchanged since the time of the last review. Whilst I could not recommend a visit here for the beer choices, I absolutely would recommend a visit to behold the place. It truly is a TARDIS like interior. Indeed as I sit at the end nearest the toilets and beyond the impressive bar, I practically need binoculars to see the front of the pub (and my eyesight is very good). There is a lot of aged sports memorabilia on the walls, my favourite being a poster to advertise one of the bouts between Roy Shaw and Lenny McLean at Cinatra’s in Croydon I would imagine in the rough second half of the 1970’s. Pool and darts were being actively played in the first furlong of the pub even at my quite early evening visit. There are a lot of high level screens dotted around the back wall of the bar.

There really isn’t much on offer here beer wise. I opted for a pint of Guinness shunning the only other option of John Smiths (a killed via being shot or stabbed sort of choice).

Beer choices aside I really enjoyed having visited this pub, more so than a lot of pubs that I would regard as tick off venues. It might not be feature or architecturally lovely, but it is a hugely impressive establishment. The sort of place where you could lose yourself for a couple of hours if you didn’t mind what you were drinking particularly. It can only be a 5 but a well worth visiting 5 location!

Just Doom Bar on in here, at £2 a half. I didn't see any sign of food during my midweek afternoon visit, but a sign near the front window advertised pies, pasties and sausage rolls available all day. Not exactly haute cuisine, but it works for me.

The pub is a bit of a TARDIS. The front of the pub as you enter is effectively a sports area, with a pool table in the middle of the room, a dartboard near the front window, and a pull down screen above the brick built fireplace presumably for showing major sporting events. There are some armchairs in this area, plus some normal tables and chairs. The bar counter is on the right, then it opens out into another large carpeted seating area. A corridor at the back leads to the loos, and then onto a large function room at the very back - unfortunately locked so I couldn't explore it.

Throughout the pub the walls are covered in superb fielded wood panelling to two-thirds height, and I quite liked the brick built fireplace. Decor is mainly sport related - I spotted photographs of boxers, and football related stuff such as an Emirates Stadium nameplate; a framed footbal score of Manchester United 8 - Arsenal 2; and a photograph of football action featuring players wearing red shirts.

The Doom Bar was as good as Doom Bar ever is, but I guess there isn't much call for an interesting real ale. It was desperately quiet when I was in - punter numbers not approaching double figures - but I guess it must be a much livelier place in the evenings. I reckon it's a comfortable enough pub, but I probably won't be visiting again.
