The Brockley Jack has a central tile floored bar area with a serving counter across the rear that faces a couple of high tables that back onto a raised seating area across the front windows. On the bar is a selection of standard and premium keg products alongside four hand pumps, two of which were unused and the other two badged with Greene King beers were reverse clipped, so I ended up with half a Stella. To the right of the bar is a carpeted area with a pool table and high tables that are faced by a television on the rear wall that was airing muted Ally pally darts via Sky Sports while some background music played. To the left of the bar is a wooden floored seating area with a second television that was showing muted Channel 4 afternoon programmes that nobody was watching. In the rear is a rectangular red stripe carpeted area with tables that the polite staff were setting up for Christmas dinners, I assume there was a party later in the day. I thought it was ok in here, but a GK pub with hit and miss ale isn’t going to make it onto my revisit list.

This is still a Greene King pub according to the signage, and although the interior is as described by Pubsignman, I think it must have improved since his visit. The ales on were How Green is Your Valley, from Kite Brewery apparently in conjunction with Greene King; St Austell Tribute; plus Gwynt Y Ddraig Fiery Fox cider (6.5%) also on handpump. None of the GK usual suspects were on, but I did see an Old Golden Hen pumpclip reversed. And the staff didn't seem surly on my visit. This is branded as a "Flame Grill", and the glossy menu made the claim that that their dishes are grilled to perfection. As you would expect it's a pub grub heavy menu, and nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

The pub itself is a majestic, enormous edifice dominating that part of the main road - no backstreet boozer this. The interior has been modernised considerably as previously described. As you enter the bar counter faces you; the flooring here is a mix of bare boards and flagstones; and furnishings around the place ar a mix of normal tables and chairs and tall tables/tall stools. In all then, a typical high street pub. Overall I reckon that this is an “OK” pub, even though it has little of the traditional pub character that I appreciate.
