Plenty of cask options here, my Oakham Citra was in very good nick. The other cask offerings were Thornbridge Jaipur, Rebellion IPA and Rebellion Roasted Nuts both from the Marlow Brewery, Twickenham Naked Ladies, GK IPA, Abbot, Doom Bar. The keg options were Carling, Coors, Leffe Blonde, K1664, Worthington Creamflow, Stella, Budweiser, Guinness, Punk IPA, Shipyard Pale Ale, Carlsberg, Bud Light, Corona, Stowford Press, Dark fruits SB and Angelo Poretti.
This is a really old school JDW, indeed in stepping into here felt like I had stepped back in time to my JDW experience in the 90's. It is a long rectangle off a parade of shops with the two-sided serving bar counter starting about mid venue on the left-hand wall. Obviously carpeted with just a bare boarded area around the bar counter. Tightly packed tables and chairs plus typical booth style seating on both sides for at least parts of those sides. The front right-hand wall was occupied by six arcade machines, a bit disappointing to see. The venue had a bit of an art deco feel about it and it was very lively on my early evening visit. There was also a beer fridge mid venue offering a range of take away canned beers from a range of craft brewers. Most here were here for the food and the very attractively priced beers on tap and hand pump.

With its Orwell-inspired name, this opened in 1990 in a former branch of Woolworth’s, indeed one of Sir Spoonalot’s earliest ventures, situated beyond the North Circular, otherwise known as London’s asteroid belt. I wouldn’t ordinarily come to somewhere like this but needed the loo after a long trek from the tube out to the George.
The interior is small by ‘spoons standards, but then that was par for the course in the firm’s early days, with an ‘olde worlde’ look, typical of the breed. What’s more prominent than most are the extraordinary number of flashing games machines, TVs and baby changing facilities. Customers were mixed in age and a relaxed bunch at the time of my Friday 10.40pm visit.
Aside from the usual suspects, there were five guests across a good range, but just one pump was operational: Bragdy Mŵs Piws Calon Lân, £1.28 a half and in good nick, served by a friendly barman.
Aside from the electronics, this is one of the better examples.
Rated 4.5.

Standard spoons - in the Good Beer Guide 2024 under Colindale and to be fair, there didnt seem to be anything else in Colindale other than mid-rise housing promoted by a company called Unkle.
Converted woolies - with drinking area to the front and then laid out for dining towards the rear. Usual carpet style, picture style on walls and more fruit machines than in a las vegas hotel lobby.
Brains SA in very good condition.
