Single hand pump dispensing TT LL. Keg offering of Guinness, Orchard Thieves cider, berries & cherries Old Mount cider, Laine Fader, Moretti, Heineken, Cruz, Redchurch lager, Laine Sonar, Gamma Ray and Amstel.

Large pub on the extremities of the NW postcodes. Car park out the front and inside it is U shaped. The bar counter follows the shape of the inside of the pub, but service is only provided on the front facing the entrance with quite a few stools around its length. The front part of the pub has quite a bit of wood panelling and it is painted a dark turquoise colour which makes the front seating area quite dark. The flooring is blocked wood, sort of herringbone pattern that has shown a bit of footfall over the years. Regular tables and chairs around the front plus the odd leather sofa. Down a couple of stairs beyond the bar counter to the right is another seating area but where the wood panelling is painted a golden yellow, so it is somewhat brighter and has transitioned into regular boarded flooring. Over to the left of the bar counter there is a large wall mural of the namesakes of the venue to the left of a log burner that looks like it is used in colder and darker parts of the year. The lighting over this side is more ambient. The garden can be accessed down a few steps off this side (or from the back of the other side) and it was the big attraction of the venue on my visit. Some decking immediately outside but the bulk of the picnic benches were on astroturf with umbrellas that must have been providing some welcome relief from the sunshine a bit earlier. There are some outside covered dining areas but not in use on my visit.

This pub was probably a coaching inn, dating from the early 19th century but possibly rebuilt in a restrained brewers’ Tudor style, with a Taylor Walker sign bracket, denuded of its gun carriage.
The interior is contemporary, with a parquet floor, Prussian blue field panelling and white colour scheme with mixed lighting styles; customers were mainly affluent locals, many dining to the rear at the time of my Friday 8.55pm visit.
I’m not sure if there’s cask ale here anymore as I was confronted by an unidentified single reversed clip, so it was a half of Neck Oil at an excruciating £3.90, served by a diffident barman.
This place isn’t too bad, but it’s bordering on the anodyne, the lack of cask costing it a point.

This pub has the appearance of one that has gone down the gastropub route, although I didn't get to see a menu. There is now no carpet on the floor, but the wood parquet flooring now revealed is a very attractive feature. The walls have some fielded wood panelling, but now painted gastro grey of course, as is the bar counter front. There's one of those water containers on the counter, as well as a large coffee machine of some sort. There are one or two sofas of course, but mainly furnishings are normal tables and chairs.

A massive blackboard on one of the walls advertised all manner of things, like free water for dogs (I've yet to encounter a pub that would charge a dog for a drink); wi-fi; a steak night plus a two for one meal deal; and live entertainment (something called "Accoustica"). There's a garden at the rear, plus a small car park at the front. A room/area on the right had some antlers mounted on the wall, with a framed advertisement on the mantlepiece featuring a deer and informing us that hunting season is open. Hmmm - I suppose this far north I must be in the countryside.

A small blackboard on the counter advertised Pedrino Fizz for £6.95. Luckily they also sold real ale - Butcombe Bitter, GK Abbot, and St Austell Tribute (£2 a half), with another couple of pumps having reversed clips. I didn't see a menu, but at around 2.20 on a weekday afternoon I saw a group at another table tucking into their grub.

Even though it looks a bit gastro, this is still a real pub - the food business hasn't taken over the pub. It's certainly not a destination pub; it seemed friendly enough and is OK for a beer or two if you're in the area.
