An attractive country pub with a small stream running along the front. In fact you have to drive over a bridge to get in to the pub, over the stream.
Inside it’s a mix of three different rooms, all clustered around a central bar. The main bar at the front has wooden boards on the floor, and several black beams on the ceiling, along with some exposed stone walls, and a very large, double sided stone built fire place. Some of the beams are quite low, especially a major joist running right in front of the bar. I’m only 5’7” so it didn’t present a problem, but anybody a couple of inches taller could have done themselves some serious damage. To the left was a plasma stuck on the wall, which seemed a little out of place (although fortunately this was off) and a few leather armchairs clustered around in front of it.
To the right is what might be described as a snug, although it didn’t have a particularly cosy character. There were a couple of chunky wooden tables, matting on the floor, pale green paint on the top half of the walls, numerous wildlife pictures and white wood panelling below. At the back of the pub was an area more geared up for dining, with most of the tables being laid up to some degree. This had lime green painted stone walls and wood boards on the floor, as well as a few more black beams on the ceiling. I have heard that the food is very good, although I didn’t try it on this occasion.
Despite four hand pumps on the bar, unfortunately only two were in use dispensing Cottage Brewery’s Lord Nelson and Silverstone Pit Stop. The solitary cider was Stowford Press.
