Smallish traditionally furnished pub despite the grey wall paint, layout as Will describes, beers on were Tribute and Ghost ship along with the excitement of Doom Bar "coming soon". Decent enough pub close to the tube but not worth a dedicated trip.

I was here soon after the opening time - on a Thursday - of 11am, which is on WhatPub and Facebook, but in fact the pub didn't open until 12 noon. No matter, it was a pleasant day and I sat outside the church opposite and ate a sandwich while waiting. Once allowed in it is a fairly small single room, with another room upstairs and a roof garden as well. Four hand pumps, with just one beer available, plus Doom Bar and Landlord "coming soon". Fortunately my half of Wychwood Dirty Tackle, a rugby union special, was better than I expected.

Dating from 1747, this pub was rebuilt in 1939, the two polychromatic ‘Toby’ ceramic reliefs flanking the main window an indication that Charrington’s was the culprit.
It’s largely as described below, a small room best suited to vertical drinking, with what little furniture being tall and conventional. The floor’s boarded or tiled, there’s a mixed grey colour scheme, with part field panelled walls and mixed styles of lighting. Customers were mixed though probably mostly City workers, but proceedings were dominated by noisy football commentary, which made for a poor environment; unsurprisingly, no-one was watching it.
Ales amounted to Doom, Landlord, Tribute and Sussex Best at £2.60 and nice, served by a polite landlady.
This is ok for a stop and there’s a lot worse in the vicinity. Doom aside, the ale choice wasn’t bad. Closed on Sunday.
