A rather plain and austere Sam Smiths pub next to the beautiful St Barts church, it felt like time was standing still sitting here in silence during the early afternoon. Nothing to get too excited about in the trad decor over too floors but all was pleasant enough, as was my Old Brewery Bitter.

The Rising Sun is a Sam Smiths pub that was empty during a recent midweek visit not long before office kicking out time when I assume a few punters would have wandered in. There’s an old worn wooden floor throughout and a small counter placed mid-way along the rear wall supports the usual SS keg alongside two hand pumps for the Old Brewery Bitter, which was a bit steep at £3.35 for a half. The pub is in two sections with high tables and a dartboard in the right-hand side and high-backed banquettes with open plan tables and chairs in the left-hand side. The service was polite, but with prices around the same as the other pubs in the area I see no reason to revisit.

An interesting looking pub but it's cold and neglected. I understand a "no mobiles" policy, but "no heating" means no punters. And no punters means the cask beer is crap. My half of Old Brewery was borderline complainable, but what's the point? Even the cold serving temperature couldn't disguise how tired this beer was. A slight mustiness on the nose, and a taste of banana on the swallow. I left most of my half pint on the table and walked out.
