This was easily the best pub of the triumvirate that comprised the Admiral Cod and Shuckburgh.
It was quite a long pub with a flagstone floor as I recall. One of the best in the area and what a shame it closed.

It was my intention to visit the Australian and the nearby Shuckburgh Arms on a recent visit so it was rather sad to discover that both pubs are now no longer trading. I used both frequently both back in the 80’s when I worked in the area and have fond memories of them. The Aussie was also one of the last connections to the old Prince’s Cricket Ground that once stood on this spot (the pub was named in honour of the Australian Touring Team who played matches here in the 1870’s). A few more pub memories that I will be unable to rekindle.
