Mews pub owned by Fuller's which has been in all the Good Beer Guides and is * CAMRA Heritage pub. Quite nicely plain and traditional inside, two rooms separated by a knock-through arch. Varnished wood floor, rugs, third length varnish wood panelling plus Victorian(ana) prints. Front door has a full-length semi-circular curtain to keep out the draught. A quiet pub which is nice, bar the aircon unit on the wall which made a horrible rattly farting noise every minute or so. Mid-afternoon clientele mainly Americans and embassy staffers. Set of Fuller's beers on tap with welcome sightings of ESB, HSB and Griffin IPA. Punted a pint of the Griffin which was barrel-end, the spluttery nature of the pour should have been picked up (NBSS 2). Decided to punt a pint of the HSB which was also on its way out - lightning truly striking twice - though not quite as obviously as its predecessor (2.5). No doubt this place will continue to trundle on in the GBG out of nostalgia but I wasn't overly convinced. As a postscript, the staff were chatting amongst themselves just as I was gathering my belongings and it was clear that a couple of them were not to au fait with cask management with tapping and spiling literally being explained (no sign of the American landlord - maybe he was on holiday?). The box is ticked but I didn’t see enough to make me prioritise this one over numerous other Fullers pubs in central London. 6.5

Rich in history - which may be legend only, but good fun. Pick your favourite story from the place where the Great Train Robbery was planned to the 1960s landlord Paddy Kennedy telling Elizabeth Taylor to move her fat ar*e so a regular could sit down.
Great stuff.
Today, its a tidy mews pub, hidden away from those who are not looking for it. I stayed on the ground floor, tucked in along the bar to soak in the atmosphere.
Fullers pub and a mentioned by OB - a GBG regular, including 2024.
My sort of tourist pub.

Splendid mews pub behind the German embassy, the front bar is cosy and friendly with more rooms upstairs one called “The Library”, and there’s a dining room to the left. A Fullers pub with the beer in excellent condition. It has a Yank landlord but he seems a good sort. One of the famous five pubs continuously in the Good Beer Guide since 1974 and you can see why.
