Oh dear ! This pub is failing and desperately needs a change of direction. The exterior is traditional and off the entrance is a decent sized decked beer garden.Inside the left leg has dining tables but the small open kitchen is non functional and looks sad with just stainless steel equipment lying dormant. The bar supports mainstream kegs and two handpumps serving Fullers London Pride and Black Sheep Bitter (The very epitomy of a BBB,tangy NBSS 1.5 ,£2.45 the half ,why did I bother ?)
Beyond the bar is a wider rear seating section with a very long coffee making bar ,again unused. There are rooms upstairs and maybe the customer base is drawn from the residents. An awful hip hop soundtrack was playing much too loud,a real dirge.
One of the staff was complaining to another about the difficult of the pub trade,I assume neither had any idea what they were doing as being bored they were responsible for turning up the soundtrack volume, they loved the dirge.
Just keep on walking until someone get holds of this pub and turns it around.Terrible and largely empty in it's current guise.

A first in here the other night into what was the Pontefract Castle but since 1995 has been The Chapel, the name that can be seen to the exterior in garish green neon, looking for all the world like some nightclub somewhere like...Pontefract?
It's a banana-shaped pub which is broadly half pub and half dining area with a grand lantern underneath which there was probably once a billiard table, but today is home to furniture for gastro-style dining serviced by an open kitchen which makes for noise and in summer, excessive heat. The neon green theme continues inside with some slender green columns and a field panelled bar, painted in similarly verdant hues. The floor is modern dark bare boarded and furniture is of the heavy pine variety with delicate café-style chairs.
The staff were friendly and efficient enough, dispensing probably the same ales as earlier today: Portobello Brewing Co's Star and Black Sheep's Bitter, decent and at £2.30 a half which is not bad for the area, especially if you factor in this pub's upmarket aspirations.
This so-called pub may only serve medium strength ales for the less hardened drinker, but otherwise it's ok - nothing more.

Large room with the bar in the middle. Two weak real ales - rest keg. Nothing special.
