A great little boozer in the midst of upmarket gastro pubs , a two roomed affair with a central U shaped bar. Quite busy on an early Saturday afternoon with very much a locals feel.Beers on were Portobello Star, Harveys Sussex Best and a very nice Timothy Taylors Golden Best.Very much a proper pub despite the fact it's card only, a must inclusion on a pub crawl.

A magnificently unspoilt locals' pub, still much as described below. With some 1930's music playing, it was quite easy to be transported back quite a few decades (provided you forgot the TVs and coffee machine!). Chatting to the new (Irish) landlord, he explained that it is no longer a managed house as he has taken on a 5 year lease and he will be making some minor improvements but seeking to keep the unspoilt character. Despite a strong Guinness following, he is planning to augment the ale range which is not bad already with Portobello Star and Westway Pale, plus Harvey's Sussex Best. A proper pub and well worth visiting.

Pretty well-oiled at this point, but we found time for a swift one at this decent little community pub. Got a good impression of it and the ale was decent- three from Portobello plus Doom Bar. Not much to complain about here but it didn’t quite push my buttons like the Churchill Arms. Surprised to find out it’s a Stonegate managed house- certainly didn’t feel like it.
