Steve of N21 left this review about The General Havelock
Haven’t been in for a few years but decided to look The General Havelock up again the other day and very pleased to find that this continues to be a very solid pub.
The General Havelock was formerly three farmyard cottages, supplying ales to local farm workers. It is now a warm, friendly, local pub.
Internally it is one open space around an L shaped bar, but divided into a couple of distinct areas. It is a very traditional pub décor, with an open fire, pub mirrors and lots of interesting objects, articles and memorabilia around the walls including a few old muskets to keep the General Havelock theme. The inside space has plenty of comfortable seating and as well as the small amount of outside seating in the front of the pub, there is also a very pleasant garden space out back with half a dozen bench seats.
There is a decent selection of real ales on and good traditional pub food is available.
There are six hand pumps lined up on the main bar and being a Fullers house, five are Fullers ales ( Pride and ESP and currently Summer Ale were complemented by HSB and Seafarers) and then the sixth is a rotating guest beer which was Wye Valley Bitter during my last visit.
This decent pub has deservedly been a regular in the Good Beer Guide over the last 15 years.
The only issue is that it’s a bit out the way outside High Wycombe on the Kingsmead Road, but it is certainly worth the short trip out of town for the good beer and good food and is highly recommended.
