The Duke of Argyll is a Sam Smiths pub with their usual keg and no OBB on hand pump, which I didn’t mind because, after years of trawling pubs in the north, I’ve developed a taste for their Alpine Lager. There’s a central wooden counter that serves booths up the right-hand side and the main bar area to the front. In the left rear is a seating area with fireplace that is also served by the counter. There’s lots of wood panelling and etched glass dividing screens throughout, but the old worn wooden floor is older than all the pub’s accoutrements. There’s an advertised dining area on the first floor that I didn’t visit. There was no need to shield the use of mobile phones in here, which may be down to the staff not giving a shit, or maybe the recent demise of Humphrey. I could manage another pint in here if passing, but I probably wouldn’t stay for a second.
