An attractively tiled exterior leads in to a pleasantly traditional interior with a few oil paintings hung around the walls. No longer a Shepherd Neame pub, there were two ales on among the four handles on the bar, Hobgoblin and Landlord, the latter was in decent shape but I was slightly taken aback at the £7.50 price tag, I know this is central London but come on, that's pushing it a bit.
A nice pub but I'll be avoiding a return at those prices, no surprise I was the only customer.

A very good looking Shepherd Neame tied house on a street corner in an upmarket part of Bloomsbury.Although there's lots of space outside,signs warn you that drinks must not be consumed outside at weekends,I guess because of noise later in the evening.The exterior has some fine tiling and three doors while the carpeted interior is very traditional and winds around a central servery.Lots of wood panelling,bench seating with circular tables and stools ,bar stools and a very fine Shep's mirror above a gas fire.There are two flatscreens for terrestrial sport but with volume down while at one end around a banquette there is an interesting glass topped table with old Sheps bottles shown off,such a shame the range of ales here are no longer produced by this family brewer.Thai food is served,there is a juke box and background muzak together with seating upstairs.
There are 6 handpumps but the same ale selection of Sheps Spitfire and Whitstable Bay Pale with a guest in Lacons Affinity (decent nick) on my Saturday afternoon trip.
Better than I was expecting ,a very comfortable boozer and worth a squint if passing.

Standard London corner bar. Shepherd Neame outlet so Spitfire was the order of the day. Average pub.
