OK, so I think I came in at a crazy time. Eight-thirty on a Monday evening: unsure as to whether the place was open or not (some lights on, some off, umbrellas outside folded up). Door checked: open. A cosy, rustic pub with a small dining area through a doorway to the left, and a narrow descending, stepped bar area to the right with the bar against the wall facing the entrance. A mish-mash of beams, bench seats, tiled floor and cushions with a vaulted area far right where the bar ends and a three-ale salvo of Young's Bitter, Rebellion IPA and Rebellion Smuggler were on offer. Confusion as to who was serving made me realise I was in the midst of the drunken, and although my pint of Smuggler was in great nick, I was subjected to a slightly uncomfortable interrogation. Shame, as a chalkboard next to the bar listed a load of pub grub favourites all under a tenner and despite the food slant, this does retain pubby trappings. One for a weekend revisit methinks, so a generous 6 on this occasion.
