Fairly large country pub on the A157 with an old petrol pump outside it. The pub operates extremely limited opening hours. In fact, it only opens on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5pm and also on Sunday lunchtime. It is run by friendly volunteers from the community and seems to have a good local following.
The bar is to the right of the entrance corridor. Another empty room was off to the left. The bar itself is long and thin and split into two different sections. Food is a focus with the opening times seeming to be based around popular meal times.
For a pub that rarely opens, I was surprised to find 3 real ale options and was even more surprised to see a saison on cask. The 3 on offer were Wickham House King's Island Bitter, Ferry Ales Great Character F & Bateman's XB. It's possible that there were 3 as there had been a beer festival on the previous weekend.
With tables available, we also decided to eat here. I had the gammon and the rest of the family had burgers. All were nice and reasonably priced. This pub features in the current Good Beer Guide and is worth a visit.
