Now an outlet for Brill's Vale Brewery as mentioned by Gill below, this sported four of its beers on my weeknight visit - Best, Brill Gold, Gravitas and 'Fork Handles' - the latter of which was in great condition as you'd expect and good value at £3.50 a pint (and served in a Vale glass to boot). Two guests accompanied these the other side of a partition in the bar, in the name of ABC's Gamma and something I wrote down as Batham Cross Causeway, but have since been unable to locate online to verify(!): there were also plenty of bottled options in the fridge. A rectangular room accessed from the front of the building sees a bare-boarded floor with the bar occupying the second half of the left-hand wall, third-height wood panelling running along the walls and a mixture of wooden and leather chairing along with a smattering of breweriana on the walls and an upright piano in the right-hand corner of the room next to a large bay window. A cosier anteroom is located behind the bar down a couple of steps and there's a separate restaurant area up a few steps from the main bar room. This is a great option for this market town which once had surfeit of pubs and is well worth a visit if you're in this neck of the woods.

This pub had recently had a revamp by Vale brewery, and s a very popular busy pub. As well as a good selection of ales, there is a bottle shop with ales served from gravity and take outs available in containers. Enjoyed Vale Christmas Star and Milestone Fletchers.
