A corner pub at the top of Steep Hill, handily placed between the cathedral and the castle, and therefore a popular tourist pub. There are five hand pumps, with three beers from the Marstons stable at the time of my Wednesday afternoon visit: Boon Doggle, Pedigree and Hobgoblin. The Boon Doggle was ok (NBSS 2.5) though not really good enough to encourage another visit. Apparently one of the few original copies of Magna Carta is here in Lincoln - at the castle rather than the pub - though that fact does lend a bit of legitimacy to the pub's name.

A fairly standard Marston's eatery type of pub, but in a superb location with both the Cathedral and the Castle on it's doorstep. Lots of different levels inside all set up for dining. Sadly it's got the tedious Marston's selection of beer as well. Hobgoblin, Hobgoblin Gold and Pedigree, to be fair the Pedigree was well kept. It was pretty busy, but not full and they were already warning people that there was an hours wait for food. This is not a pub that's worth an hour of anyone's time really.

The Magna Carta was originally a Mansfield tied house,an i am pretty sure it was not pub in the 80s.
Once inside the bar faces and there is a mix of normal tables and chairs and a few normal ones, there is more seating on three different levels,so if the ground level room is full try the other floors which whenever we have been in are also full, probably best to wait for the pub to open to get a seat.
The pub is now a Marstons tied house,on my recent visit i had a drink of Jennings Cumberland and have had Pedigree and Ringwood best in the past, plus other Marstons beers on the many occasions we have been here.
This is a decent enough pub that does decent priced food.
