A white painted roadside pub with a canopied porch that may catch your eye as you drive past on the busy A158. There are two large rooms with eating going on in the left hand side when I arrived just before 8:45pm on a Wednesday. I had taken a photograph of the opening times as I walked in, but hadn't fully taken on board the midweek closing time, which is 9pm. (And not open at all Monday and Tuesday.) There were three hand pumps on the bar with Old Speckled Hen and two from local-ish Beermats Brewery near Newark. I went for a half of each: a modern pale called Soul Mate and an American IPA called Matrix. Neither were really what I'd call pleasant beers, and if pushed to give an opinion I'd say they were in decent condition but just not very good beers; no doubt there would be many who would disagree. Service was friendly and the room was smartly furnished, all modern stuff, though (like the beers) not necessarily to my taste. After a little while it became apparent that all the customers and nearly all the staff had left the building, so I checked the opening times on my camera - to be fair, I was never aware of any pressure to drink up and leave and I spent a fairly pleasant three quarters of an hour here. And was wished a cheerful farewell upon returning my glasses to the bar.
