A tidy brick built pub in a quiet village about a mile from the A1 at Gonerby Moor. Two main rooms at the front-public bar to the left, saloon to the right , with a restaurant and kitchen to the rear in converted former out buildings-there are letting rooms in the corresponding range the other side of the patio.
We have been coming here for lunch for the best part of ten years on our way to Yorkshire, meeting other branches of the family.Things seem very much the same-a comfortable air of contentment prevails, the autumnal open fires countering (in our case) the mind numbing effect of the A1.
The beer list doesn’t seem quite as interesting as hithertofor-I remember enjoying beers from York Brewery in the past ,however Timothy Taylor Landlord , on our latest visit in October was on good form .The meals offered are good value: being a creature of habit, I always seem to have a Landlord pie, although I was highly tempted by a rather topstage suet pudding devoured by my father in law.
If we lived nearer,I’m sure we would use this pub more than once a year, and I’d do my utmost to get the landlord to stock beers from Oakham or Grainstore.
