Having recently moved from a smaller premises up the road Bar Retro is now in this 18th century building that has previously been known as the Blue Man Inn and the Malt Shovel before serving as a number of failed food led establishments. It’s now very much a pub again, but don’t get too excited because only standard and premium keg are available from the counter that faces you upon entry. The interior has been through a 1980s refurbishment so there’s a bit of neon and some retro stuff on the walls, including old vinyl records. There’s some seating in the bay window to the left and a dartboard sits on the left-hand wall next to an enormous office whiteboard for scoring. I suspect the standard of arrow tossing isn’t great! The large speakers give the game away that this is a weekend pub and I expect that karaoke is hosted here often. The service was very polite, but this isn’t my sort of place so I don’t plan on returning.
