Pub with limited opening hours on a B road in Great Kimble. It opens Thursday & Friday lunchtimes and evenings, all day Saturday and until 7pm on a Sunday. The focus is very much on dining. Although, there were some local drinkers congregated around the bar throughout our visit.
We were in the market for a very late Sunday lunch and this pub was able to provide that. Although at £19 for a roast, it didn't come cheap.
The pub is one large room with the bar in the middle. A large table with a reserved sign could be found at one end, whilst a particularly large Christmas tree was taking a fair amount of space at the other end. Children are welcome and the family next to us were getting quite a bit amusement from use of a whoopee cushion. Meanwhile the locals congregated at the bar were spouting all sorts of nonsense, including a lengthy conversation about the suitability of Aylesbury's traffic lights.
There are a couple of handpulls at the bar. Tring Ridgeway appears to be the only cask ale served these days, with a turned clip on the second pull. The cider was Inch's. Greene King Level Head was on keg.
To the rear, there appeared to be a small garden but most people probably use the village green to the front of the pub, which also has some children's play equipment. The car park could benefit from some lighting.
Overall, I enjoyed our visit here. There is a nice mix of diners and local drinkers. Whilst I didn't sample the Ridgeway, it must be good, as it earns the pub a spot in the current Good Beer Guide.

Enjoyed our visit yesterday to this very busy pub with it's good food menu, and we enjoyed the Tring Moongazing and Loddon Reading Best.

A village pub and B&B in a Victorian building on the main road through the village. The pub is adjacent to what appears to be the village football pitch and has an approach road which could easily trap a car with low ground clearance due to the enormous potholes. Once past the obstacle, there is plenty of parking. There is a small, tidy outside area with bench seating from which the sports pitch can be observed. Inside, the single long bar has a carpeted dining area on the left, a central bar counter with bar stools and a pleasant tiled saloon bar with plenty of seating and a brick open fire on the right. There are a couple of small TV screens, which were switched off when we visited, and a projector is fixed to the ceiling in the saloon. Food is basic pub grub, home cooked and reasonable value for money. They also offer Sunday lunches and breakfasts most days. Dogs are welcomed and there is WiFi. There were 3 ales on draft: Side Pocket For A Toad and Moongazing from Tring, plus a guest beer. All three were in excellent condition. I'd be delighted to come back here any time, and I would be tempted to try the B&B in future.
