Old Boots left this review about The Boat Inn

Smaller than it looks from the outside, it’s a thin L shape with the majority of the pub being to the left, an open snug area to the right. The main bar is certainly a traditional, comfortable pub with Gaskill & Chambers banquettes at cast iron base tables, a ceiling of thin fake beams and a quarry tile floor. The counter is a nice panelled job and supports four pulls, Taylors Landlord and Boltmaker (4 in old money, very good in the new system) plus Bass and a clip reversed on the fourth. Keg drinkers are satisfied with three dreary mock pilsners, Guinness and John Smiths, the cider is Thatchers Gold. Nice pubby decor of old bottles, old photos and some Oakham Canal related stuff which is why it is so named. There’s a dart board at the far end. Deservedly a GBG pub, handy for the station but opens from 4pm Monday to Friday, from noon on Saturdays and Sundays.

Classic old skool boozer tucked away off the main road. Nowhere near water but apparently there was a canal just over way that has since been filled-in. Really atmospheric inside with quarry tile floor, dark varnish wood panelling, cosy seating, polished brass foot rail and a till of old pumps. Downside was a mute TV showing nothing in particular. Relaxed atmosphere with a couple of other gents reading the paper and the publican’s granddaughter quietly colouring-in her book. Dart board spotted. Superb pint of Bass (NBSS 4) as well alongside TT Boltmaker and Tribute; is now GBG. Also noted a decent range of scotch in a dedicated corner. Cheese and onion cobs for 3 quid as well. I could have stayed here for a few more but as the town of Melton laid before me, I had to get gone. This was by far the best pub of the day and I look forward to popping in again sometime in the next few months. 8.5

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Boat Inn

The Boat is situated at the bottom end of Burton Street and is close to the railway station. When I'd entered my previous pub the Harboro' Hotel, I could swear that the exterior lights of the Boat were still on. However, when I left the other pub, they were off. I was fearing that they had closed.

Luckily, there were still a few punters in. Although, they were preparing to leave. The landlord and landlady were both friendly enough and they were happy to chat. I think they were planning to close after I'd left. But just as I was departing, another group arrived.

I was happy that I made it in time! With just one fairly small single room, the 3 real ales were Bass, Bombardier & Doom Bar.
