An old, listed and much extended hotel with a public bar at the front facing onto the High St. It had a famous landlord, John Fothergill, in the 1930s who wrote books about his three inns*, he was a total snob and famously rude but latched onto the then obsession with “ye olde english inn” among the motoring middle classes. He has been compared to Basil Fawlty. Nowadays it’s much like any bland upmarket hotel bar in feel and decor with a mix of old and new, light wood, laminate flooring, a weirdly padded seat and odd decor items. A few old photos of, mostly the town’s grammar school also decorate the place. Two rooms, the one at the back is similar but less odd and both are serviced by the central servery. Beer wise three pumps with two from nearby Langton, both average malty brown beers and a blank third. Usual crop of Guinness and mainly latin lagers, it also advertises beers from local Partizan Brewing of Thorpe Langton.

* They were The Spreadeagle, Thame, The Royal Hotel, Ascot and The Three Swans.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Three Swans Hotel

No self-respecting market town should be without a hotel that still looks like this from the road and features an interesting old pub sign, even if the interior has been comprehensively remodelled and modernised. That said, the front bar definitely operates as a pub rather than a fancy bar or with all the tables laid up for those eating. Landlord and Langton's Inclined Plane (£2.15, half) available on handpump from the central servery, behind which the restaurant and other facilities can be found. Now run by the Coaching Inn Group, it was a better experience than I was expecting.

A spacious but modernised interior complete with piped music It didn't do a lot for me pub-wise. On the beer front there was a choice of Landlord and Langton Inclined Plane, having already had the former twice that day I went for the latter which I found to be bland and malty, so not a great over all experience.
