The first stop on a three-day bender to try and tick off all of Rutland’s pubs. This was an inauspicious start, as it’s a large roadside bar/eatery. Spacious and fairly plain inside, the suntrap decking outside is a much better bet if the weather is good (it was). We were the first customers of the day, which allowed us to observe Leo Sayer on the tellybox, appearing on some sort of daytime TV programme. That was the highlight, as the ‘whacky’ barman served up a pretty atrocious Grainstore Triple B – we’d have been better off getting the Rutland handpump cider. We retreated to the decking to find a new home for beer before zipping off.
